The Brief:

The Brief:

We were totally inspired when we were called to view a classic Cotswold barn and outbuildings undergoing conversion in a postcard Cotswold village.

Having purchased the property still its farm yard state, our garden focussed clients contacted us at an early stage to explore how to integrate the buildings into the landscape and how these ideas could go on to have a direct influence on the internal design in tandem with the architects.

The Solution

The Solution

The design strove to reflect the atmosphere of the location and surrounding countryside and needed to be traditional without feeling dated. The first step was to integrate the new barn conversion with the distant countryside so we repeated internal materials, colours and proportions out through the full length long folding doors to seamlessly blend inside and out.

No geometry was applied here on the ground pattern as this would have been at odds with the landscape. This is one of the most difficult design styles to get right in landscape design and many concepts were prepared before we achieved a natural look - almost as if it had not been purposefully designed at all.

The Outcome:

The result is a seamless transition from a beautifully finished interior through new gardens to the stunning Cotswold landscape beyond. Noel Kingsbury an expert on native flora was consulted specifically for this project as the final plant choice was crucial to its success. Surprisingly low maintenance, this wild flower scheme needs very little time spent on it.

The front of the property is a set piece in the Cotswold style and shows off the beauty of the barn conversion – a contemporary yet timeless feel flows beautifully throughout from the front gate to the endless views beyond.
"Thank you John for a beautiful garden which echoes our wonderful Cotswold surroundings, just what we wanted!.
