SMALL GARDEN

The Brief:

The Brief:

Our design focused clients wanted to exploit every inch of this undeveloped plot and wanted a garden to use in effect as an ‘outdoor room’ - one where they could enjoy the days and evenings come rain or shine.

Despite its urban location the garden enjoyed a private aspect with mature trees shielding the boundary from neighbours’ windows, however these did partly shade the garden in many places and the lawns were struggling to survive

The Solution

The Solution

Inspiration was developed by creating an extensive mood board between the clients and ourselves via Pinterest (a common method of ours) a wish list of looks and features that set a style to aim for and an exciting vision to meet. Several socialising areas were planned in to exploit the sun at all times of the day.

Some dead wooding and reducing was carried out to the boundary trees and this allowed more light in. The most shaded area in the middle of the garden was now to become a central sitting area for those days when shade is needed and provides a beautiful mid garden focal point when looking from the house and back from the summerhouse.

The Outcome:

The Outcome:

Our clients asked us to create a visually stunning garden out of the existing dull and cluttered plot and looking at the before and after images we think this was achieved. At the far end of the garden a beautiful log cabin enjoys a fire pit and a great long view, past a central coffee area, back to the house where you will find the clients enjoying a cosy gas fuelled fireplace and relaxing exterior lounge furniture.

This typical urban space is now a warm and exciting extension of the house interior and the strong geometry of the bespoke fireplace and garden layout give a contemporary feel to the property
We really love the design and the way it has come to life, would be great if it received an award – we think it is fab! Thanks once again John for a lovely garden.
