TOWN & CITY GARDEN DESIGNS

Town and City Gardens are less influenced by their surroundings and local vernacular materials like their country cousins. As such, there is a vast array of choice at hand - some clients like an ultra modern style that will match their new build house, or a milder contemporary style that echoes currents trends. A simple period style is effective with period properties whilst other clients like to echo a favourite destination i.e. Japanese or a hot Mediterranean country. This choice can make the design process complex and demanding but ultimately rewarding and beautiful

MODERN FAMILY PROJECT

A complex brief with an ambitious client made this a challenging and rewarding project. With extensive specimen planting to woodland areas, formal, planting around the poolside gardens and loose colourful planting to lawn borders and patio edges. A fully automatic integrated irrigation system keeps these zones watered to their individual requirements. Specimen container planting adds a formal touch to the front doorway - the copper finish complementing the rustic house brick

THE NORTHWOOD PROJECT

A project on a large scale that overcame many hurdles to achieve its final and stunning look. The garden caters for the clients love of plants whilst being a fun playground for the children. A pathway is lined with clipped formal trees that lead the eye to a bespoke childrens play house whilst a bespoke wood burning fireplace is a lovely feature for the clients and their guests who want to extend the day in the garden

YOUNG FAMILY PROJECT

A new development and a new exciting outdoor room for entertaining all year round for this young professional family. Designed to be wheelchair accessible and very contemporary in style, the garden looks impressive when viewed from the house with bands of concealed strip LED lighting running across the scheme

THE GRID PROJECT

The clients were great lovers of modern art and the house displayed many fine works. These were taken as the inspiration for the design. The ground pattern - an interlocking grid system and crop style planting echos the architecture of the house, a geometric plain and simple style with natural tones. The house woodwork was repeated on the ground to retain the pattern and ground levels, inside which specimen planting makes a focal point surrounded by block ground cover plants

THE SCULPTURE GARDEN PROJECT

The brief for the front garden to park several family cars is balanced by generous borders of foliage and flower thereby making this area appear more like a garden than a car park. This difficult garden required plenty of manual labour to terrace the plot on several levels. The result provides a stunning platform in the distance for a stainless steel art sculpture, whilst outside the house window a close up water fall provides a fascinating specticle

THE EARLY RETIREMENT PROJECT

Originaly a tired and outmoded garden, the clients wanted to transform the plot into a plant lovers paradise which they could enjoy coming into early retirement. A bespoke David Harbor Sundial set amongst colourful herbs pulls the eye down the garden through a wisteria clad arbour. Over 40 tonnes of soil was imported into the site to improve soil conditions and terrace the uneven ground. The clients are proud to tend this garden - its certainly the best looked after garden I have designed
